Mt. SAC Summer Enrollment Up 10 Percent
Walnut, CA ... Enrollment statistics for Mt. San Antonio College's summer credit classes show a total enrollment of 13,285 students--an increase of just over 10 percent compared to the same time period one year ago.
"Overall, it's a very healthy enrollment for the first summer session," said Mt. SAC President Bill Feddersen.
Figures as of May 30, the second week of the first summer session, show that 1,221 more students are taking credit classes at Mt. SAC compared to the second week of summer classes last year.
The most dramatic increase is in evening students. The number taking evening classes jumped 25 percent. The numbers for day students, meanwhile, fell just over 2 percent for a total of 7,916.
In terms of combined credit and community education or non-credit enrollment, numbers indicate that total enrollment is up 11 percent for a total of 21,174 credit and non-credit students compared to figures from one year ago.
Mt. SAC offers two six-week summer sessions, May 21 to July 1 and July 2 to August 12. The college, which enrolls over 40,000 students during its 18-week semesters, is the largest single-campus community college in California.
- 30 -Mt. SAC Hires New CalWORKs Manager
Walnut, CA ... Mary Murshedi, the Supervising Community Activities Coordinator for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, has been named the new CalWORKs Manager at Mt. San Antonio College. Murshedi began at Mt. SAC on May 29.
CalWORKs is the state's welfare reform program designed to help welfare recipients and other program participants work toward specific careers and employment. Through the program, Mt. SAC offers short-term programs, career guidance, and a case management support system to keep CalWORKs students on target with their plans.
Murshedi, who served as the Supervising Community Activities Coordinator for the Office of Education since 1998, also previously served as the Community Activities Coordinator and GAIN Services Worker for the County Office of Education. In addition, she has worked as the District Leader for Toastmasters International.
She holds memberships in many professional organizations, including Toastmasters International, the American Society for Training and Development, the National Association for Workforce Development Professionals, and the National Speakers Association. She is involved with several community organizations which include the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army and the Victim Assistance Program with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Murshedi, a resident of Diamond Bar, holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a master's degree in Organizational Management.
- 30 -Mt. SAC Hires New Grounds Director
Walnut, CA ... Carol Gundlach, the Golf Course Superintendent for the American Golf Corporation Jess Ranch Golf Course, has been named the new Director of Grounds at Mt. San Antonio College. Gundlach started at Mt. SAC on June 4.
Gundlach, who has served as Superintendent for the Jess Ranch Golf Course since January, previously was the Golf Course Superintendent for Upland Hills Country Club, which received the Inland Valley Public Course of the Year honors in 2000. At Upland Hills, her projects included landscape design, playing surface renovation, and development of a capital improvement plan for the club grounds. She also served as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Empire Lakes Golf Course, where she supervised construction projects and chemical applications. She has memberships in the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Southern California.
Gundlach, a resident of Alta Loma, holds a bachelor's degree in Landscape Horticulture from Colorado State University.
Mt. SAC Hires New Fiscal Services Director

Walnut, CA ... Linda Baldwin, the Director of Personnel Operations for the North Orange County Community College District, has been named the new Director of Fiscal Services at Mt. San Antonio College. Baldwin starts at Mt. SAC on July 11.
Baldwin, who has been the Director of Personnel Operations at the North Orange County Community College District for the past three years, previously served as the District Coordinator of Fiscal Affairs for seven years at the North Orange County District, where she was responsible for the district's accounting department, budget development, and financial aid. She is involved with several professional organizations, including memberships with the California Association of School Business Officials, the Association of California Community College Administrators, and the Association of Chief Human Resources Officers.
Baldwin, a resident of Brea, holds a bachelor's in Business Administration and master's degree in Human Resources Management.
