Community Education Center Holds Open House

Walnut, CA … The Mt. San Antonio College Community Education Center will hold its sixth annual Open House, which will include facilities tours, student testimonials, and a continental breakfast, on Friday, November 8, 7:30 to 11 a.m., at the center located on campus in Mt. SAC's building 30.

"The Community Education Center offers comprehensive workplace development through basic skills and short-term vocational training," said Special Programs and Basic Skills Director Margie High.

Mt. SAC's Community Education Center offers a variety of programs, including job skills training, computer courses, literacy tutoring, a high school diploma program, and preparation for the GED test. Programs include training for careers in health care, office occupations, and other fields.

Mt. SAC to Host Area High School Principals

Walnut, CA … Principals from 48 high schools in Mt. San Antonio College's service area are expected to attend the college's annual High School Principals Breakfast, October 28, 7 to 9 a.m. in the Mt. SAC Learning Resource Center’s Teleconference Room, room 160.

This year's breakfast will feature presentations, the breakfast, and a question-and-answer period. Information will be provided on admissions, class enrollment, high school articulation efforts, and general information on Mt. SAC programs.

The event is an important component of the partnership effort between the college and its feeder high schools.

Mt. SAC Planetarium Presents 'Myths, Monsters & Giants'

Walnut, CA … Mt. San Antonio College Planetarium will present a program on the fall season’s constellations, "Myths, Monsters, and Giants in the Sky," on Fridays, October 25, and November 1, 8, 15, and 22, at 7:30 p.m., in the Mt. SAC Planetarium.

A program for the whole family, "Myths, Monsters, and Giants in the Sky" looks at the season’s constellation and examines how the constellations received their names from the stories and legends of the ancient Greeks. Planetarium lecturer Jeff Schroeder of Jet Propulsion Laboratories in Pasadena will also explore the different types of stars that make up the various star patterns.

Admission for adults is $4.50, and admission for children is $3. Children under four cannot be admitted. There will be no late seating, and tickets must be bought in advance.

Mt. SAC Students Celebrate Respiratory Care Week

Walnut, CA … Mt. San Antonio College students will celebrate National Respiratory Care Week, designed to promote lung health awareness, on October 21-24, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the quad area of the college’s Social Science Building, building 26.

Equipment displays, presentations, testing, and demonstrations are all part of the activities planned by Mt. SAC Respiratory Therapy students. Information on respiratory care and health will also be available.
