ADJUNCT PROFESSOR, CHEMISTRY

THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS

SALARY: $70.24 PER HOUR based on lecture hour equivalent taught (Adjunct are placed on salary schedule)

DUTIES:
• Teach lecture and laboratory courses in introductory, allied health, general chemistry and/or organic chemistry. Assignments may include late afternoon and evening hours.

• Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions

• Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities, College policies, Division policies and Department policies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

A. One of the following awarded/ conferred from an accredited institution:

1. Master's degree in Chemistry; OR Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry AND Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics, Physics, Molecular Biology, or Geochemistry; OR

2. The EQUIVALENCY: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering AND Master's degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics, Physics, Molecular Biology, or Geochemistry; OR

3. Possession of a California credential valid for life authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline at the community college level; AND

B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural student environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS: Transcripts issued outside the United States of America require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from a certified transcript evaluation service verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. This report must be attached with the application.

Applications will be evaluated, taking into account the breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. Selected applicants will be invited for an oral interview which will include a 10 minute teaching demonstration on a topic provided in advance of the interview date.

The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, College resources, needs, and Board of Trustees' approval. Applications will be accepted throughout the year.
