ADJUNCT PROFESSOR, COMMUNICATION STUDIES

THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS

SALARY: $70.24 PER HOUR based on lecture hour equivalent taught (Adjunct are placed on salary schedule)

DUTIES:

• Teach courses in public speaking, interpersonal communication, oral interpretation, argumentation and debate, intercultural communication, professional speaking, and/or other speech areas.

• Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

• Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with College and division policies in the performance of duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

A. One of the following awarded/ conferred from an accredited institution:

1. Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication; OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English; OR

2. Equivalency: Bachelor's degree in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication AND [Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Education OR J.D. degree] AND a minimum of one year of college-level teaching experience; OR

3. Possession of a California credential valid for life authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline at the community college level (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential AND transcripts must be submitted with the application.); AND

B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural student environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS: Transcripts issued outside the United States of America require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from a certified transcript evaluation service verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. This report must be attached with the application.

Applications will be evaluated, taking into account the breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. Selected applicants will be invited for an oral interview. Successful applicants may be requested to take a written and/or performance test.

The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, College resources, needs, and Board of Trustees' approval. Applications will be accepted throughout the year.
