ADJUNCT PROFESSOR, JAPANESE

THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS

SALARY: $70.24 PER HOUR based on lecture hour equivalent taught (Adjunct are placed on salary schedule)

DUTIES: Teaching Japanese class(es), level one through three.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

A. One of the following:

1. Master's in the language being taught; OR
2. Bachelor's in the language being taught AND master's in another language or linguistics; OR
3. The Equivalency: Master's in a field related to Eastern Asian Studies, language acquisition, or education such as East Asian Languages and Cultures, East Asian Studies, Linguistics, Education, Bilingual Education, TESOL, Curriculum & Instruction, or Speech Communication AND Fluency in written and spoken Japanese, as determined by the current full-time professor(s) of Japanese AND EITHER (A minimum of 12 semester upper division or graduate units in classes related to the study of Japanese language or culture, OR (Completion of a Master's thesis related to Japanese language or culture AND teaching experience);          

B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural student environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS: Transcripts issued outside the United States of America require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from a certified transcript evaluation service verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. This report must be attached with the application.

Applications will be evaluated, taking into account the breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. Selected applicants will be invited for an oral interview. Successful applicants may be requested to take a written and/or performance test.

The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, College resources, needs, and Board of Trustees' approval.
